Year 5 & 6 2019 - 2020

Mrs Bebbington

Happy new term!

I can't believe we are two thirds through the school year already! For some of our class, the countdown to secondary school is well underway and for the rest you are on your journey to step into year 6. We have lots of exciting and interesting work planned over the course of the term on the theme of 'Go Greek'. Please see our term's class curriculum map.

Our PE days continue to be Thursday with the sports coaches, and we start our swimming sessions, at the LIfestyle centre in Winsford, on Wednesday 1st May. Swimming will last for 10 weeks. If you wish for your child to wear goggles to swim in please do collect a goggle disclaimer form from Mrs Evan's. In school, we will be improving our skills in cricket and improving our track and field athletics. Please keep an eye on the weather as we do plan to go outside for as many sessions as we can- weather pending. Children will need to have trainers in school and a pair of jogging trousers for when the weather is cooler.

Spellings and tables will continue to come home on Thursdays. The children will be tested in school on Mondays on their tables and spellings. The children will also bring a piece of homework home on Thursdays, to be handed in on a Monday. Please encourage your child to read at home too, as part of their home learning as well as for sheer enjoyment. It is also really important to be confident in telling the time, both digital and analogue; please encourge your children to practise this at home too. Year 6 children will be continue with their practice Maths SAT book. The work in this book will form the basis of their maths homework for the first half term. The children will be also be given the opportunity to work through practise SAT questions throughout the first couple of weeks this term to help prepare them for the tests in May

Please do come into see me if you wish to discuss anything that arrises through the course of this half term. I hope the children will all come back into school keen and ready to learn. I am really looking forward to taking them on their journey as they progress through the upper part of key stage 2, getting them all ready for that inevitable move to high school.
