Year 5 & 6 2017 - 2018

Mrs Bebbington

Happy New Year!!

This term, as usual, is going to be a busy one; there's so much going on over the next few weeks! We are delighted to be joined again by out associate teacher, Miss Bunce, who will be working with the class through to February half term. We are both very excited about this term's English work as it is based on another favourite story of mine. We are looking forward to sharing 'The Giant's Necklace by Michael Morpurrgo with you. It is a story based on a holiday to Cornwall. We will travel through thriugh Britain at the time to learn about one our most beatiful coastal areas, learn about the geography of coasts and the history of the area. We will be working on the theme of evolutin and inheritance in science, the Jewish way of life in RE, and getting the batik pot out for some art work based on waves. We are starting our maths this term with another of my favourite topics: fractions, decimals and percentagea, so brush up on your x tables because you will be using them all the time!

Our PE days continues to be Thursday with the sports coaches and with the class on Tuesday afternoons. We will be working on dance and netball this term. Please make sure there is a suitable kit in school at all times. We will be going outside so a pair of tracksuit bottoms or jogging pants may be needed when the weather gets cooler. Trainers are a must this term!

As usual spellings and tables will come home on Thursdays. The children will be tested in school on Mondays. The children will also bring maths homework home on Thursdays, to be handed in on a Monday. Year 6 will also have a Maths SAT practice book coming home for their homewoork. Please encourage your child to read at home too as part of their home learning and just for sheer enjoyment and also to keep practising their x tables and being confident in telling the time.

Please do come into see me if you wish to discuss anything that arrises through the course of this term. The children have all come back into school keen and ready to learn. I am really looking forward to taking them on their journey as they progress through the upper part of key stage 2, getting them all ready for that inevitable move to high school.
