A new year and a new start!
Date: 7th Sep 2016 @ 4:37pm
I just wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself and to keep you updated on what the children have been up to.
The children have settled in well and have enjoyed getting to know their new classroom and, of course me, their new teacher! I have been teaching for 12 years, although this is my first class reponsibility in a Primary setting. I was previously a Secondary English teacher and spent my career in a large high school in Stoke-on-Trent. This was very challenging but has given me excellent experience and understanding of how children's needs are met when they are learning to get to grips with reading and writing. Before coming to Byley I worked at Mablins Lane Community Primary School in Crewe. As a father of two sons (3 and 4) I understand the pressures of family life and how important it is for your child to feel happy and safe in school. I am sure we will have a great year together!
In English, the children are working on a topic around the theme of giants. We have started by looking at how to tell interesting stories and have had a go at re-telling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
In Maths we are working on place value and the children have worked hard at using number lines and strings to help with their understanding. We are working towards having all the children confident at adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers!
Our topic theme this term will be Romans and how they changed the life of people in Britain. We are very lucky to have such a wealth of Roman history in our local area and if you would like to encourage your child's interest in the topic please do. The library in Middlewich is a good place to start.
Thank you taking the time to read the blog. I hope to keep you up to date as much as possible, but if there is anything you want to check, please ask.
