Welcome to Year 1 and 2
The Autumn's theme is'Where do I live?'.
We hope you have had a lovely break and are now looking forward to all the exciting things we are going to be doing during the Autumn term in our new classroom.
Here are some of the topics the children will be covering this term. You can find more detail on this on the 'Curriculum page'.
- English: Fiction -familiar stories and stories from other places. Non fiction writing- historical recounts
- Maths: place value, addition and subtraction
- Science: Materials
- Art: Colour chaos
- DT: Moving Pictures
- History: Learning all about our locality over time
- Geography: Byley
- PSHE: All about Me
- RE: Nature and God
P.E days are Monday and Friday. Children will be getting changed for their lessons this year in school. We will be inside on Mondays and as far as possible, outside on Fridays- weather permitting- so make sure a few warm clothes are put in PE bags. PE bags will be hung on named pegs in the corridor outside the classroom.
Forest school sessions will be taking place later in the term. We will let you know more about these nearer the time.
Homework
As you are aware, reading is one of the most important things your child will do during KS1. If you can, we would like you to be reading three times per week at home for 15 minutes - even better if you can manage reading every day if possible! An adult can record reading at home in your child's reading diary. This is a great opportunity to build up stamps on reading awards too, leading to certificates in Friday assemblies.
Spellings will be posted in the diary every week.
Spellings for all children will be sent home on a Monday based on the phonics learning that week or on "tricky words" that can't be sounded out. It is important that they are practised at home. Spell checks will be completed the following Monday before the new week's words are sent home.
If you do have anything you wish to discuss, please pop in and see us. Thank you for your continued support.
