SATs preparation
On this page, you will find all the information shared in our SATs parents' meeting, along with extra information and useful websites.
As we head into our final weeks before the SATs examinations, we will be revisiting topics we have already covered in both Maths ad English. We will continue to teach writing as usual, although there is not a formal examination (see the gov.uk pdf attached for more information about this).
Youtube explanations
I have uploaded my first video on how to tackle key arithmetic areas. These can only be accessed by this link. Feel free to allow your child to use this but please don't share with others outside of our class. Thank you and I hope the children find them helpful. More are on the way!

SATs folder
As mentioned in the meeting, your child will need a folder (any will do!) to keep track of their homework. There will be a grid given to the children where they can record what their homework is and when it is due. This is preparing them not only for the SATs but also for high school. If getting a folder is an issue, school will happily provide one - just ask!
It is important that your child completes homework on time and brings it into school on the correct date. This allows them to partake in marking their homework (and therefore allows them to understand where they have made mistakes, if they have). If they bring it in late, or not at all, this will result in them missing out on key learning.
Spelling help
A few parents have spoke to me about helping their child with spelling for SATs. My best advice would be to look at the Year 3/4 and 5/6 word lists (found under our spelling section on our class page). Getting a great knowledge of these will be very helpful as, whilst they are not only tested on these words, they do come up often!
Helpful websites - if you find anymore, please do let me know!
Purple Mash for timestables - the children know their logins and are familiar with this.

Extra help
If you are looking for extra workbooks to work through with your child for the upcoming weeks before the SATs examinations, I suggest the CGP books. They do excellent Maths, Reading and SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) books. We use the SATs Maths book in school and the 'normal' SPAG book so I suggest getting the 'normal' Y6 Maths CGP book and the KS2 English SATs Buster Grammar CGP book. Amazon links are below to avoid confusion! They also do 'SAT Buster 10 minute tests' books if you want something a bit snappier!
Thank you for all your continued work. Your children are working so hard and this is showing in the quality of their work. They make me proud every day.
