How do animals keep warm?

We explored just how cold the water around the Arctic and Antarctica could be when we started off our experiment by putting our bare hands into a bowl of ice cold water. We discussed how our hands felt and how we think animals would survive in the colder climates.

We then covered our hands with cling film and put a layer of lard over the top. We were surprised at how this stopped our hands from feeling the cold when we placed them back in the ice cold water.
